Portsmouth upstarts Hallan announce second EP ‘The Noise Of A Firing Gun’, set for release March 31st via Nice Swan Records (English Teacher, Sports Team, Courting), and share lead single ‘Unwomanly Face Of War’, out today (February 16th).
Partnering with the tastemaker label for their brand new record, the thrilling quartet are primed to build on acclaimed debut EP ‘Reporting Live From The Living Room Floor’, with their newest work seeing the band experiment with production elements and shift their gaze towards synthesised sounds of the ‘80s, whilst retaining their post-punk edge.
Detailing their frantic and jarring lead track, enigmatic frontman Conor Clements explained: “After an exploration into “The Unwomanly Face of War”, a book penned by Nobel Prize winning author Svetlana Alexievich, I discovered the real life stories of hundreds of female soldiers who endured horrors and loss during the Second World War. Having fought for the Soviet Union these women of Russia recount their memories and nightmares in honest detail, sharing their experiences on the front lines and back home.
‘Unwomanly Face Of War’ is written to remember the realities of a time not long ago and the sacrifices and efforts given by women of the past; it reminds us all to ensure above all else that no daughter or son need know the noise of a firing gun”.
Leaving the mundanity of the 21st century behind and turning to real-life events of the past, Hallan bring attention to the stories of historical individuals within their new EP. Having already attracted an array of acclaim throughout the press landscape (Loud & Quiet, The Line Of Best Fit, Dork, CRACK Magazine, Clash, Gigwise, The Forty-Five, Rough Trade), as well as supports with Sports Team, Porridge Radio and Pom Poko, and considerable BBC 6 Music playlist (Steve Lamacq) exposure, Hallan are readying themselves to hit the road this April for a full-scale UK tour, coinciding with their EP’s arrival.
