“A Leeds post-punk four-piece who take their place in the front rank of great new British bands” The Sunday Times
“The fierce and magnetic draw of a future punk great” NME
“Leeds post-punkers with an eye for a cutting one-liner” DIY
“Matching barbed, often hilarious lyricism against bundles of askew guitar pop riffery” Clash
Leeds risers English Teacher share thrilling new effort ‘Mental Maths’ (out March 29th), marking the latest reveal from the group’s eagerly anticipated debut EP ‘Polyawkward’ arriving next month via Nice Swan Records (Sports Team, Pip Blom, FUR).
Newly confirmed to support US indie icons Yeah Yeah Yeahs on their UK tour this summer, the band’s unstoppable rise shows no signs of easing anytime soon, with their own debut UK headline tour also lined up next month, followed by countless festival dates and autumn shows with fellow Yorkshire breakout stars Yard Act.
Detailing their latest EP offering, bandleader Lily Fontaine revealed: “”Mental Maths’ is an expression of social anxiety and sensory overload through the catastrophising of a trip to the supermarket.”
With a formidable 2022 already well underway, English Teacher’s status as key players amongst the emerging indie elite continues to develop at an impressive rate, with the NME 100, DIY Class of 2022 and Dork 2022 Hype List figures attracting widespread critical acclaim (The Sunday Times, NME, DIY, Dork, So Young, The Line Of Best Fit, Clash, Gigwise) and countless spins on the BBC Radio 1 (Jack Saunders, Gemma Bradley), BBC 6 Music (Steve Lamacq, Lauren Laverne, Huw Stephens) and KEXP airwaves.
Produced by Theo Verney (TRAAMS, FEET, Lazarus Kane), English Teacher’s ‘Mental Maths’ is out March 29th via Nice Swan Records and will be available on all digital platforms. Pre-order debut EP ‘Polyawkward’ here.
